November
At the beginning of November we started to work on our project idea and we started to be active. The students were asked to make individual researches in connection with the main topics of the project:

The Danube – Europe’s lifeline
The Ecological Footprint - that measures our consumption and global effects
Active Citizenship - to get active and motivate others

At the end of November we finalized Our Project idea, we discussed about students’ individual researches and the members of the project had to fill in a questionnaire about the three project topics and about the official supporters of the European Schools for a Living Planet Project: the WWF Austria and Erste Stiftung.

Activities in December
According to our plan, in December the students were working on a survey about eating habits: They filled in a questionnaire about their own eating habits, and after that they interviewed their parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends. They had three different questionnaires about eating habits one for youngsters, another for adults and the third one for old people. The students interviewed people from the town and people from the surrounding villages as well.

Activities in January
During January the students calculated the ecological footprint of each member from the project team and they evaluated the results.

At the end of February students will make the comparison between the ecological footprint of those who live in town with the ecological footprint of those who live in villages.

First steps
We started our project by informing the school board, the teachers’ board and the students about the student-teacher-academy.

The first step of the project was to gather the team. We decided to make an announcement in the school about the European Schools for a Living Planet Project and to invite the students to apply to be accepted as a member of the team. Those students who decided to attend this group had the task to fill in Curriculum Vitae and to motivate his or her decision.

Our Project
Waste Wise Future
The project idea is to protect the environment by reducing waste. One of the goals of the Waste Wise Future Project is to foster the development of a waste wise ethic throughout the school community and by doing so change the cultural habits and attitudes from viewing what we would traditionally throw away as ‘waste’ to viewing these materials as ‘resources.’
Target group
-The students of the Székely Károly Technical School, Miercurea Ciuc, Romania
-The parents and relatives of the students from our school
-The teachers of the Székely Károly Technical School and their families
-Students from other schools of the town
-Local community
-Citizens of the town Miercurea Ciuc

Szekely Karoly Technical School - details
Romania is a country in central Europe. The town Miercurea Ciuc is situated in the central part of the country and it is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains. Winter time these mountains are covered by snow. Most of the people in this part of Romania are Hungarians; therefore our town has a Hungarian name: Csikszereda and a Romanian one Miercurea Ciuc.
The Székely Károly Technical School is one of the vocational technical schools of the region. There are almost 700 students in our school, mainly from the surrounding villages of the town, aged between 15 and 19 years. They study technical subjects and general culture subjects as well. After graduating this school they can attend to colleges or universities, or just simply go to work. The most of students are boys.
