Working in laboratory
In our small school lab we made a research about chemical composition of soil from Miljakovac forest. We analised the filtrate which we got after filtrating destilated water mixed with soil. We did about fifteen(15) experiments which we chose according to chemicals we have in our laboratory. According to results the soil definitely contains phospates (PO43-), chlorides (Cl-), and nitrates (NO3-). Also, we discovered that there is not any mercury (Hg), which is good because it is havy metal. There is not any silver (Ag), copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), chrom (Cr), and manganese (Mn), which is also good.

Planet Earth Day
Planet Earth Day was on 22nd April, 2010. All seventh grade pupils went out and we had an outdoor lesson. There were Biology, Geography, Chemistry and Math’s teacher. We talked about pollution and recycling. Also, we presented our paintings about ecology. At the beginning we all got a piece of paper, each. Nobody told us what to do with it. In the end some kids threw it on the ground. It showed that if we don’t know in into the nature. We decided to collect the paper for recycling.

Researching
We visited Miljakovac forest 23rd April, 2010. Our aim was to dentine its basic characterizes. We divided into four groups and each group had difficult tasks. First, we had a square meter method to define how many difficult species live on one square meter. Then we defined the plant population density and description. We also made a tree print and took a soil sample for analysis. We took a photo at a beetle which had become almost extinct. Miljakovac forest is its rare natural living space.

Topographic maps
At our geography classes we have learnt how to read topographic maps.
At our maths classes we have learnt to draw a  terrain profile by reading contour lines in a topographic map.We have drawn the profile of the terrain which is covered by Miljakovac Forest. Its highest point (193 m) is in the central part of the forest. The terrain is steep at the edge of the forest.

We have concluded that cutting down of the forest would cause the soil erosion.

Last Monday
Last Monday (March 22nd), we devoted a class to International day of water and International day of woods.
During the class we talked about how much it is important to save water and our environment.
Our classmates made a board with title, the lost drop, they wrote on it about erosions, preservations of water, reforestation, eco code…
We also have drawn a tree with ecological conceptions on its branches.

The goal of this class was to make the ecological awareness bigger.
It is important for everyone to give its contribution to preservation of our environment.

What we've learned
On Tuesday, 16th February 2010, we want to the Environmental Protection Secretariat. People from the secretariat welcomed us warmly, and we learned a lot from them. We talked about the project, our forest, recycling... We found a way to awake people's consciousness about recycling. We found out a lot about the way some natural wealth becomes protected.

We learned a lot about the forest. Now we are familiar with it's surface and it's importance.

We got presents, books and posters which we'll show to our friends from school. They promised that they'll help us with the project, they'll try to provide us with recycling containers and have a lecture on it at school.

Welcome to our Miljakovac forest!
Our place Miljakovac was named after Miljakovac forest which surrounds it. The forest covers approximately 10 square km and there are a lot of paths in it.

When we look back to the spring we see a green forest that looks like an invincible fortress. During the winter there is no noise in it, you can’t hear children’s laugh. There are no couples there, and no old people who are sitting and having a rest.

Now it is quiet and it seems to me as it is sleeping. You can’t hear the birds’ singing. It seems they have all flown away.

The small pond in the centre of the forest is frozen. The snow carpet has covered all the paths and the trees are yearning for the sun because they can’t stand this coldness anymore.

The forest looks to us helpless and apathetic, but we know that winter won’t last long, and everything will be just like before.

We shall begin our research then.
