Hungary
Hungary is famous for its great plains of the Carpathian basin with herds of grazing cattle. However in the northern parts of Hungary, the Carpathian mountains along the border with Slovak Republic rise up to 1000 metres above sea level. The Danube river divides Hungary into Transdanubia in the west and the great Hungarian plains in the east. Lake Balaton, the greatest lake in Central Europe, is situated in the west of Hungary.
The capital of Hungary is Budapest with 1.7 million inhabitants.
