The Vocational High School of Clothing and Design "Princess Maria Luisa" is situated almost in the centre of the Bulgarian capital Sofia. It was created on 20.09.1893 by the Sofia Women's Charity Association "Mother". This was the first girls' vocational secondary school in Bulgaria.
At the beginning of the 1950s the school differentiated as a Technical School of Clothing "Vela Blagoeva". The present name of the school was restored in 1998. Due to the noble efforts and contribution of many generations of teachers, today this is an elite vocational school, realizing educational and professional preparation of the students.
The specialties here are: "Constructing,design and technology of the clothing" and "Fashion Design". The length of study is 5 or 6 years after finishing 7th grade or 8th grade. The students receive training to become clothes designers, technologists in the sewing production, organizers and operators in the sewing production of textile. The scholl has 7 workshops, specially designed for modern production, equiped with modern Japanese and South Korean machinery. In the Professional training classes various clothes are made, using drawings and cuts, designed by the students themselves. The products are presented at attractive fashion shows.
The school also has a big indoor gymnasium with fitness equipment, 2 open-air playgrounds, 2 computer laboratories.
