European schools for a living planet
NYME Roth Gyula Secondary School, Sopron
Our school  is one  of the oldest institutes  of the  Hungarian  forestry education, which opened the doors on 15th October 1885 at Temesvár-Vadászerdő,  for young people  with the love of  forest and  nature as profession.   After  the treaty  of  Trianon the  school  moved  to Tata, Esztergom and finally settled in Sopron. The operation in Sopron, from 1950, was especially important, because of the high  standard  tutorial and educational work. The faculty raised into the row of the recognized institutes and the created values could be saved untill now. Besides the forestry  technicians,  in 1980 the education of students  of wood tech-nology also started. 1st of September 1999 was a historical turnpoint in the life of  the  school when  due to  the decision  of the  Minister of Education we became the training school of the University  of  West Hungary, which effected remarkable professional development. Due
to this event the education of environmental protection technician
and also the wildlife management technician could be launched.

The preparatory language classes give  possibility for learning English and  German.  These classes give  good basis  for further  and higher education. The education based on our traditions prepares our students for the real life,  not just  for the profession.  The student  hostel  also supports the common  education goals.  In  every year there are about 120-130 new students of the school and about  550 learn  altogether  in 7 grades. About the 60-65 %  of the students come far away from Sopron, from all parts of Hungary.

The main objective  of  the forestry technician education is to prepare middle level leaders for the fields of forestry and wildlife anagement,  who are able for self-supporting forest-contractor works. The wood technology technician education trains professionals for sawnwood and woodboard production, and secondly for furniture manufacturing and building joinery, who are able to work on their  own as individuals or leaders of a manufactory. Environmental protection technicians repare for the tasks of nature conservation  and environmental administration, who attend governmental and economical exercises. The wildlife management technicians meet the expectations of the forestry sector, hunting associations and game breeders, also on the middle level.

There are several sport, outdoor and leisure activities each year. Good conditions  are given for wood carving, drawing, folk dance and choir singing or other facultative works in connection with the mission of the school. Hiking, visiting theaters and museums, study-jurneys, ski amps and a lot more give nice colours inside the walls of the old school in the middle of a historical town, surrounded by traditions and „Good Luck!”.
